I totally love Kermit the frog but I'm not sure I'm up to wearing him in public.

bummer [Jun. 28th, 2009|12:59 pm]

Wow, it's a bad month to be a celebrity. Billy Mays, Farrah Faucet, MJ, David Carradine and Ed McMahon. Celebrity deaths usually come in threes, are we working on six now. Such a bummer.

too much water [Jun. 15th, 2008|07:25 pm]

I am saddened to see what has happened to the University of Iowa because of all of this rain. All of the buildings that I spent the majority of my time in have flooded. Faculty, staff and students were working hard to sandbag but it could not keep the Iowa River from taking over. I found a picture of the apartment building where we used to live.

Bummer.

Coming home from work is supposed to be happy thing. Turns out its not quite so happy when a high schooler hits you from behind when you slow down to avoid hitting the cars in front of you who have come to an abrupt stop. My car was not too badly damaged, very driveable but probably needs a new bumper. My neck hurts like the dickens, not sure what to do about that. I did not get any insurance information from the kid who hit me. The police came to file a report and the officer said I would get that information when the report was finished next week. Is that how things normally work? Its also getting close to the weekend. My doctor doesn't really do office hours on Fridays. Its not like I am going to go to the emergency room for a neck ache.
On a weird side note, one of my students was writing an article for the newspaper this past week about what to do in case you get into an accident. At the time I was thinking that this article was a really good idea. Now I agree even more. Its not something that happens everyday (thank goodness) so you don't really think about what you should do when it happens.

So my parents sent me a letter today in the mail. The letter is addressed Sheree Husband's Last Name. The letter contained a clipping from their local newspaper of a brief bit they submitted when I got my Ph.D. My last name in the clipping is Sheree Maiden Name no hyphen Husband's Last Name. Apparently my parents are not convinced that I kept my last name even though I have told them on more than one occasion in the last five years that I did not change it. At this point, as demonstrated by these two pieces of evidence, I am not sure my parents even know what my last name is.

"A child, a child
Shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Let us bring him silver and gold"
I'm too practical for Christmas music. Bring the kid a blanket.

darth vader rocks [Oct. 27th, 2007|02:04 pm]
shereettu
Last year around Christmas time we found a snow globe with Darth Vader in it. He is sitting on the ground making a Death Star replica out of snow. It play's "Let it Snow". This year, since Christmas starts earlier and earlier, we have already found the Darth Vader snow globe. It still plays the same song but this one has Darth wearing a Santa hat and holding a "naughty or nice" list. He's got Leia, Luke, Han, Yoda, Chewie, etc, crossed out on his list while Lindo, Palpatine and others are in the clear. Its pretty hillarious.

basketball, woo hoo [Oct. 14th, 2007|07:12 pm]

Today we went to an NBA game and we had super cool seats. We were right behind where the guys sit. If this were New York we would have been sitting next to famous people like Spike Lee. We even got an autograph from one of their more famous players, which was sweet.
We were so close to the players that there was a man with a gun standing next to me the entire time. I don't think that he was necessarily scared that I was going to reach out and touch someone. I'm pretty sure it's just protocol to have dudes down there who can shoot you if you try something hinky.

I have a friend who has gotten a lot of academic mileage by writing about pornography. I have another friend who got published in a very good journal with a paper about Girls Gone Wild. I write about the suffrage movement. Maybe its not spicy enough. I'm contemplating a paper about the show on E! called The Girl's Next Door. Its about Hugh Hefner's girlfriends. I do like the show but I don't know what my angle should be. I have to think about this.
